Web Enabling

Over 20 trillion dollars has been invested in Mainframe, AS/400, iSeries and UNIX systems, which house more than 70% of corporate data and still run most core business applications. Browser-based access to host systems enables mission critical information to be shared with employees, vendors, and customers - expanding business opportunities increasing Return on Investment. Remote sales people enter data directly into the Mainframe from the road and different departments and offices of your company access the same data without needing special connections installed on their computers. Suppliers come in to your AS/400 or iSeries system to check raw material inventory levels to alert you of shortages and vendors check stock levels in real time. Customers access their accounts on-line for basic requests, without having to tie up account managers on the phone. There is no need to write new applications for the Web when your existing systems can be easily enhanced to put you on the fast track to reliable e-business benefits.

Users download emulation through a browser and make a connection to the host without having to install or configure any software locally. Browser-based access creates a platform neutral environment for a heterogeneous desktop world - making the host accessible from any PC. Having users download emulation from a server or connect to the host through a server simplifies desktop maintenance by centralizing management and administration.

Rejuvenation

Never see a green-screen again. On-the-fly rejuvenation means that all host screens accessed are presented graphically, with defined input fields and clickable hot spots (function key buttons) and menu buttons. Without doing any work, point-and-click GUI functionality is added to your screens. This allows you to meet customer demand by quickly rolling-out graphical applications. The outdated, default green-text-on-black-screen presentation of host applications is not acceptable to users on the Internet, especially the younger generation who grew up with Macs and Windows. Going from the graphical Web to a green-screen can have a jarring effect on the user and give them the wrong impression of your company. Green-screens are branded as decidedly "old-technology" and may give users the impression that your operation is behind the times.

In most applications, 80% of the benefit comes from 20% of the screens. The automatic rejuvenation means that after you make some global changes to the application, you can spend the bulk of your time customizing the heavily trafficked screens. Once that 20% of the application is completed - the application is ready to be rolled out because the remaining 80% of the application has already been made graphical and falls in line with the customized screens. You can complete customizing the application while it is on-line.

Studies have shown that users are more comfortable, more accurate and complete more tasks in graphical applications. With green screens- there is the attitude of just trying to get through something, whereas with the graphical application people are more likely to explore and learn the capabilities of the system.

Customization

Customization is the logical step after Web-enabling and rejuvenation. Customization makes your host application easier to use, changing its appearance to the point that people over the web will have no idea that they are accessing a host. Add familiar Internet controls such as buttons, images, frames and drop-down lists that users are comfortable with and accustomed to. Customers, partners and suppliers can easily transact their business on-line - without costly calls to your support center to explain the functions on the host screen. Replace labels that read "PF4=Help" with buttons that read "Help!" to cut down on confusion. Remote users will not need to be trained to use the application - an important consideration when considering people dispersed across the Internet.

With customization you can present host screens with the same look as you're your Intranet/Homepage - users do not have to know that they have launched a host session.

Integration

Export host data to other applications to make users more efficient and accurate. Create receipts by clicking a button on the host screen and send them to clients in the form of an invoice. Greatly enhance the functionality of host information by combining it with other business data and presenting it on a single screen. Search sort and update external databases - dynamically populating customization objects with the most current information.

Integrate host input/output from one application with another application - automating data entry and eliminating redundant input. Combine screens to make call centers more efficient in helping customers - letting them input data or see a complete customer history without having to navigate through multiple screens.

Security

ResQNet.com products all feature state of the art security to ensure that reliable data is sent and received between trusted sources. Any host based user IDs, passwords and security (including renowned RACF security) are maintained throughout the ResQNet.com product line - requiring the user to log-in before they are able to submit or view any data to the host. ResQNet.com products also take advantage of today's industry standard SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) security to ensure the authenticity of the server and to encrypt data between client and server. SSL is implemented as a separate module of ResQNet, and can be realized from the web server in ResQPortal. SSL has become the accepted way to negotiate an method of encryption between clients and servers on the Internet.

Patents

ResQNet.com products feature patented screen recognition technology that allow our products to remain streamlined and ideal for distribution over the Internet and networks. Our automated screen recognition does not involve lengthy scripts that are best handled on an intermediary server. Screen recognition is an important piece of the ResQNet solution because customization is assigned to screens based on host data stream recognition. Screens can be identified in the following patented ways:

Java

All ResQNet.com products are certified 100% pure Java which means that they will work similarly across all platforms. ResQNet.com solutions are cross platform, which means that the only requirement on the user is that they have the proper level of browser. But our products not only support many client-platforms, the ResQNet Java applet can be downloaded from any server, and the ResQPortal servlets (server side applets) can be installed and run on any server, including the Mainframe, AS/400 and iSeries web servers.

Even with the rise and establishment of Java as a mission-critical application development language, some companies still have a bias against letting their users download and utilize programs that were written in Java. ResQPortal does not require the user to download an applet - so the explanation below only pertains to concerns about users downloading the ResQNet applet to their machines. The following paragraph was copied from the Sun Microsystems web site to dispel the security risk that Java applets pose:

What are applets prevented from doing? In general, applets loaded over the net are prevented from reading and writing files on the client file system, and from making network connections except to the originating host. In addition, applets loaded over the net are prevented from starting other programs on the client. Applets loaded over the net are also not allowed to load libraries, or to define native method calls. If an applet could define native method calls that would give the applet direct access to the underlying computer.

Applets are as safe (or safer) than e-mail, while offering the ideal method to grant the user secure, reliable access to host data.
