Mainframe Speaks English, Users See Spanish
New York, NY. (Monday December 30, 1996) -- Latin American banks are discovering how to revitalize their mainframes without undertaking the cost and risk of altering the underlying applications. They are using ResQ! to create a Windows look and feel for their applications. This mainframe customization software from AT2.com, Inc. automatically creates the Windows interface in which users can translate everything, including help files and lists of valid input values, into their native language.
Banco Mercantil de Colombia (BMC) recently customized 460 screens for an application they purchased. They translated the screens into Spanish and remodeled them to optimize the workflow.
"ResQ! makes training quick and efficient," said Dr. Fernando Ferro, BMC's Vice President of Operations and Development. "The system as a whole is easier to use and ResQ!'s help files and valid value list have been important to training."
Now, with their mainframe applications in Spanish, Latin American operators find it not only easier to learn the system, but easier to operate it as well. And the technology that AT2 uses to give ResQ! Spanish translation capabilities can be applied to any other language in the world.
The multi-lingual capability of ResQ! is just one of the easy-to-use features of the product. Others include buttons, Combo-boxes, task bars and the ability to rearrange fields, change tab order, and create context sensitive help.
"The Windows look is very important for our operators. Most of our operators grew up with Windows," Dr. Ferro said. "And ResQ! screens are friendly, colorful and live!"
By itself, this reformatting of mainframe screens into Windows will improve productivity and reduce errors; however, when combined with on-screen translation of terms and applications into the operator's native language, the benefits to productivity and accuracy are immeasurable.
To date, ten Latin American banks in total have purchased ResQ!: Banco Mexicano (Mexico), Banco Agricola Mercantil (Guatemala), Banco Mercantil de Colombia (Bogota), Banco Mercantil de Venezuela (Caracas), Banco Sudamericano de Peru (Lima), Banco Popular (Dominican Republic), Filanbanco (Ecuador), Banco Popular del Ecuador, Banco de Credito del Peru, and Bancomer (Mexico).
