ResQNet 4.0 Integrates Hosts with other Data Sources

Extends Functionality Beyond Drag and Drop Graphical Connectivity - Brings Together Host Systems with Unix, Client/Server, Oracle and other systems

NEW YORK, NY (September 30, 1999) -Responding to the growing need to integrate various pieces of information scattered throughout the enterprise on Unix, Client/Server, other host platforms and popular desktop applications, ResQNet.com, Inc. announced today ResQNet Version 4.0.

A 100% pure Java applet, ResQNet does not require any scripting or programming to Web-enable and rejuvenate AS/400 and Mainframe computer applications. The latest version of ResQNet includes a series of important enhancements that extend the easy-to-use drag-and-drop graphical connectivity product into a powerful tool for enterprise portals.

"Even though the majority of enterprise data is stored on Mainframe and Midrange legacy systems, most users over time have added a mix of other technologies. ResQNet 4.0 is a response to the market demand to integrate data from these various sources in addition to Web-enabling the legacy applications," said Todres Yampel, President of ResQNet.com. "With the latest release, ResQNet not only updates the look and feel of legacy host applications, but has become a key integration solution."

ResQNet Version 4.0 extends the boundaries of host applications, delivering data for further reformatting and integration with other sources and returning or displaying the results. Advanced macros, comprehensive database access, and LDAP support further extend the capability of ResQNet, enabling administrators to automate and simplify end-user access and operations.

ResQNet Custom Applets allow customers to launch their own Java applets. Users can merge data from host systems with server-based applications, send data to servlets or other processing agents like Active Server Pages, servlets, and Java Server Pages. The information can then be returned to them in a formatted document that can be saved, e-mailed, etc.

Simplifying end-user navigation to hosts, ResQNet 4.0 introduces LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) support that enables the system to automatically retrieve profile-related information such as host IP addresses and other default values from directory servers. This provides for pre-filling data on screens, bypassing logon sequences and automating host connections. In addition to creating a single, global sign-on, these facilities eliminate the need for users to deal with complex entry screens and allow simple administration of departmental and regional settings.

The new Advanced Macro Facility gives administrators the flexibility of showing or hiding screens and screen objects, changing screen object captions, or modifying host input based on choices made by the end-users in conjunction with data received from the host. The system can save host and user-entered data to files or send it to the server for further processing by agents such as Active Server Pages, servlets, CGI, JSPs or others.

The comprehensive Database Access Facility extends the reach of hosts to provide database access functionality including the ability to search, sort, and retrieve data. This feature is frequently used to fill-in drop-down lists and list boxes with current data. Depending on established security privileges, users may even update databases from host applications. Data is maintained at the source, and automatically updated in all other places. The Database Access facility is compatible with Oracle JDBC Thin and OCI drivers, JDBC/OBDC bridges, DB/2 Java drivers, and other database products.

Application Launcher Facility allows users to launch desktop applications such as Word, Excel, and Access locally. For example, users can set up a button to launch an Excel spreadsheet with cells pre-filled with host screen data.

Other new features, including light pen and reverse image support, were added in response to frequent customer requests.
