Exclusive 'Tunneling' Feature Wraps Internet User's TN3270/5250 Communications In HTTPS (SSL), Allowing Secure Mainframe, AS/400, UNIX Access
New York City - February 19, 2002 - ResQNet, Inc., a pioneer and innovator in the field of legacy application enhancement and Web-enabling technology, today announced the release of ResQNet 6.0, the latest version of the company's industry-leading Web-to-Host enabling software. Among its many enhancements, ResQNet 6.0 offers new access for Internet-based TN3270/5250 and VT communications originating outside the corporate firewall, as well as first-time support for UNIX systems.
ResQNet is the industry-leading solution that turns "green screen"' mainframe, AS/400, and now UNIX programs, into GUI-based applications accessible via the Internet, and Intranets/Extranets. ResQNet enables companies to greatly extend the value of expensive, enterprise-level legacy systems by providing convenient data and application access for employees and other authorized individuals.
ResQNet's new security improvements are possible due to a "tunneling'' technology that allows closing telnet ports in corporate firewalls to TN3270/5250 terminal emulators or other emulators residing outside the firewall. With tunneling, Web-based TN3270/5250 (Telnet) and VT communications from authorized client computers are wrapped in HTTP and can be further protected by industry standard SSL (HTTPS) and client authentication tools.
By using ResQNet with HTTP tunneling with industry-standard security tools (SSL and client authentication), only authorized outside requests are allowed to create a persistent terminal emulator session with the company's mainframe, AS400, or UNIX box, thus maintaining the security and integrity of the host computer and its data.
"ResQNet 6.0's tunneling capability, along with UNIX support, adds a much greater degree of power and versatility than ever before,'' said Todres (Tod) Yampel, ResQNet President and inventor of ResQNet's patented technology. "We've extended the reach of ResQNet to a broader mix of platforms and distributed user bases, allowing employees and customers to access, update, and share corporate data quicker and easier."
UNIX Increase Uses
ResQNet 6.0's new UNIX support expands the solution far beyond its original IBM roots to RS6000, DEC, VT, UTS (Unisys), and other UNIX host infrastructures. The same convenient, drag-and-drop GUI customization is available, making ResQNet 6.0 the only solution of its kind for the UNIX environment.
Also new to Version 6.0 is a feature that allows users to access and change data residing in non-host applications. For example, an authorized hospital employee, working remotely, could request database information for a specific patient through ResQNet, even if the data doesn't reside in the billing software. If the employee needed to change the database information, the revision could take place in both the billing application and the external database.
Fast "Green Screen" Rejuvenation
ResQNet, a Java-based emulation applet, provides a cost-effective, fast, and comprehensive way to revitalize major legacy applications for use in the modern enterprise. In less than a day, ResQNet gives "green screen" software a familiar Windows look-and-feel, making it available to users on both sides of the corporate firewall.
ResQNet's customizable GUI requires no programming and achieves its results without changing the underlying application. The solution supports integration of external data sources (SQL, XML, MQSeries, and HTML), and enables mainframe/minicomputer emulation without installing or configuring anything on the user's PC or wireless device.
